When someone is seriously ill or injured, an ambulance can bring medical help quickly. These emergency vehicles carry special equipment, including stretchers, oxygen and first-aid supplies. Paramedics and other emergency medical professionals care for patients at the scene and during transport to the hospital. Ambulances often have flashing lights and sirens to warn other drivers when responding to urgent emergencies.
